Barry Ben Sugrue – affectionately known as Boz – was Dermot’s brother, and this exceptional Blanc de Blancs is made in his memory. "The truth is there is no fitting tribute to someone like Boz… however, this is my attempt.”

Cuvée Boz – 100% Chardonnay – is from Coldharbour Vineyard in West Sussex, planted in 2005 on chalk and flint soil. Vinified in stainless steel and without any oak ageing, it shows remarkable clarity and freshness that shines through its flinty minerality and a long, toasty finish.

THE STORY BEHIND ‘CUVÉE BOZ'

Barry Ben Sugrue – affectionately known as Boz – was Dermot’s brother, and this exceptional Blanc de Blancs is made in his memory. "The truth is there is no fitting tribute to someone like Boz… however, this is my attempt.”

Ben was a spectacularly gifted individual. An ardent and accomplished man, he was as bright as the crisp-white paper his razor-sharp pencil raised perfection upon.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

CEPAGE: 100% Chardonnay

VINEYARD: Coldharbour Vineyard, West Sussex, planted in 2005

SOIL TYPE: Chalk and flint soil

YIELD: Average yield 5,000kg/ha, 3,200 bottles produced

VINIFICATION: 100% stainless steel, no malolactic fermentation

MATURATION: Bottled in July 2016. 6,5 years on lees and first batch disgorged in September 2022

ANALYSIS: 9g/L residual sugar, 12% abv

WINEMAKERS NOTES

“I crafted this Blanc de Blancs with long cellar-ageing in mind, and I am delighted with the results: it is everything you would expect from a mature English Blanc de Blancs – floral notes of white flowers and citrus, with precise and elegant fruit on the palate, but with a weight and textural complexity that is only possible to achieve with extended time on lees in the winery."
